The Heart of the South Downs National Park

Midhurst

Nestled between Petersfield and Petworth, and approximately 15 minutes south of Haslemere, Midhurst is a vibrant, historic market town.

Known for its mix of Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian architecture, the town offers a unique blend of history and modern charm, making it a sought-after location for those moving to West Sussex.

Dominating the town adjacent to the water meadows are Cowdray Ruins, the site of an important Tudor house which was destroyed by fire in 1793. This forms part of the Cowdray Estate which, as well as being the home of Cowdray House, offers several country pursuits from fly fishing to a Championship golf course and polo.

Residents also enjoy the estate’s popular Farm Shop and Cafe, a hub for fresh, local produce. The High Street boasts a delightful range of independent shops, cosy cafes, and excellent restaurants. Nearby South Street is home to The Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa, one of England’s oldest coaching inns dating back to 1430.

This town is surrounded by picturesque villages such as Heyshott, Graffham, and the ‘Golden Triangle’ villages of Lurgashall, Lodsworth, and Lickfold.
